The Mwaami Foundation Story
About Our Founder
INNOCENT SIMON AKYOO was born in the small village of Nshupu-Asili on the slopes of Mount Meru in Tanzania. His parents were subsistence farmers, and his early life was marked by the challenges of poverty. Through the compassion of a sponsor named Robert and his wife from America, working with the organization "Compassion Tanzania," Innocent received educational opportunities that would change the trajectory of his life.
After completing teachers college in Kilimanjaro with the continued support of Mr. Robert's family, Innocent began teaching primary school. He dedicated himself to advising and supporting children and youth in his community, becoming a catalyst for moral development and positive change.
The Foundation's Journey
After furthering his education with tourism courses in Arusha, Innocent secured employment as a local guide at Wild Track Company. Despite his professional success, he never forgot his roots or the support that enabled his achievements. This gratitude inspired him to establish the Mwaami Foundation, beginning with a single classroom day care project to provide initial education to children who could not afford basic needs due to their family circumstances.
Today, the foundation remains committed to helping vulnerable children, including those living with elderly parents who cannot provide adequate support. The Mwaami Foundation stands as a testament to the power of education and the ripple effect of compassion that begins with one person helping another.
Our Mission
The Mwaami Foundation is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through education, mentorship, and community support. We believe that every child deserves access to quality education and the opportunity to realize their full potential, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
